If you are trying to get your Whoop data into Apple Health — for another app, a coach, or just one place that holds everything — it helps to know exactly what crosses the bridge. The honest answer: less than the strap measures.
What syncs
With the integration enabled in the Whoop app, Apple Health receives:
- Workouts — activity entries with duration and workout calories
- Sleep — sessions segmented into asleep and awake
- Once-daily summary values, written on waking: resting heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen
For daily-summary purposes, that is a workable export. Sleep and workouts are the strongest part of it.
What doesn’t sync
- Continuous heart rate. This is the one that surprises people. DC Rainmaker’s detailed teardown of the integration found Whoop writes one heart-rate value per day to Apple Health — and omits the underlying heart-rate samples even inside workout entries. The strap samples your heart continuously; the export carries almost none of it.
- HRV. Excluded entirely. A stated reason is methodological: Apple Health stores HRV as SDNN, Whoop computes RMSSD — different math, incomparable numbers.
- Whoop’s computed metrics — strain, recovery, stress scores — live in the Whoop app, not in Apple Health.
So a “synced” Health app shows your sleep and workouts, but the continuous cardiac record — the thing the strap is actually measuring all day — stays inside Whoop.
The live door most people don’t know about
There is a second, different channel: Heart Rate Broadcast, a setting in the Whoop app. Turned on, the strap streams live heart rate over standard Bluetooth — the same open protocol a chest strap uses — and anything that speaks that protocol can read it in real time: gym equipment, cycling computers, training apps. Whoop’s documentation describes it as a real-time stream with no backfilling, and notes it can toggle off after a firmware update, so it is worth re-checking after updates.
Broadcast is live-only — it cannot recover history — but it is the one place the strap’s continuous signal is available to software you choose. brainful is built on exactly this channel: it listens to the broadcast and scores each calendar event 0–100 (the b-score) on the phone, live, no pairing and no account. Whatever tool you point at the broadcast, the principle holds: the sync gives you summaries; the broadcast gives you the signal.
